Good evening classmates, so Liz and I decided to take more of a comical approach to this assignment, because sometimes, art is just way to serious. The three pieces have an extremely different feel and tone, but together they create a feeling of childhood, contrast, and irony. The background image, Study for Improvisation V, is more free feeling and gives the piece a sense of being childlike. The black and white picture (Harlem Couple) has a nice contrast with the background image because although the tone of the two images is so different, they can work together to bring something so classy and give it a more childish feel. The Doryphoros brings in a feeling of humor and irony and wipes out any bit of seriousness left in the piece. These three pieces work well to help the viewer forget about analyzing and being serious about the art for a while and just enjoy it.

I enjoy the use of humor in your installation! It brings art back to the level of pure enjoyment!
ReplyDeleteYes, it seems as though you enjoyed yourself on this one! (and nice Photoshop work, btw...) It would be interesting to hear some external information about these works and see how that could also affect the interpretation of your installation. For example... how would the fact that the Kandinsky painting (citations?) is about the apocalypse relate to the the photograph of the Harlem Couple, or the classical Doryphoros sculpture that is about human perfection in form...
ReplyDeleteThere is an enjoyable, imaginative light reading to the installation you have created, but it also seems to speak of time, culture, and class....more!
