Studio Visits

I never really payed much attention to fashion design to be completely honest, however, with Ann's crazy red hair and hip studio space... it became hard to ignore. She really brought life to the idea of an enterprising entrepeneur in the arts... Seriously, she made it very clear that she was self-taught in the ways of making it ahead in the fasion world. This sense to her was equally matched by the emphasis she placed on how she relied on others to get her work done.

It was a very interesting and enlightening little trip into the unfamiliar with Ann.

Dan was interesting in an equal yet completely different way. I have had more experience in hearing graphic designers talk about their work, and to be honest, most of the ones in my experience have been much more jaded about their field. Dan expressed an optimism and innovative spirit that several designers think to be all but dead in today's world. I LOVED the poster series he had on the wall, and though the day was hot, it is always fascinating to see a designer's workspace and hear their opinions and views on design and how they feel it should be used in today's culture. I also appreciated his work with non-profit organizations... very few designers that are able to charge a lot of money for their work do volunteer jobs for non-profit groups... That was really cool to know someone out there is doing it that COULD charge a lot if they wanted to, but doesn't based off of a personal belief rather than a financial motive.
