Biomimicry: Michelle Stolz

Interface Carpets: This type of carpet is biomimicry because of the patterns and colors used. The carpet is put into a random order, and the patterns and colros are those found in nature- such as a forest or highly wooded area. The carpet goes against how traditional carpeting is thought to be, because typically carpeting is one solid color or one repeated pattern with earthen colors or warm, inviting colors. I found this interesting because I never thought that biomimicry could arouse a creative interest in changing carpet, and the results are- craft speaking- visually interesting and very modern.

I found this car interesting because of its unique shape and design. I was quite shocked to find out that Mercedes Benz made something completely different from their usual timeless models. The model is based off of a fish, ostracion cubicus, also known as the box fiss. The car company wanted to make a more aerodynamic, but the name box fish does not seem to be aerodynamic- the fish swims rather fast because of its box-like body, and a small head that seems to almost come to a point. The finished product was tested and it is proved to be efficient.

(Pictured above) Crunch Bags: Bags made from crumpled paper and tyvek, made by designer Ilvy Jacobs that are simple and sustainable. I find these bags interesting for the simplicity and unqiue design. Even though they are made from simple materials and simple designs, they are timeless and will never be considered "out of style" because they are not a temporary trend, rather they are trend setters when it comes to biomimicry.
