Eco Art

The Olympic games are always getting bigger and better. It’s exciting to see what new structures and ideas are being brought to the table. In 2016 the games will be held in Rio de Janeiro and this time the theme is sustainable development. The Solar City Tower will stand 105 meters tall and boast a large Olympic torch on one side and an incredible waterfall on the other. The tower will use the sunlight during the day to produce energy and use water with stored energy for the nights.

There is something to be learned from everything around us. Biomimicry makes for new and exciting products in the world of design. Through research Wilhelm Barthlott discovered that the Lotus leaf naturally deters contaminants. This is now known as the Lotus Effect and its technology is used in outdoor paints, textiles, wood and glass.

For the love of eco friendly fashion design! Dave Rittinger's all nature leaf shirts leave behind no trace. Although these tops may seem alittle out there, Dave is on to something. Let's face it, we have to wear clothing, so why no be kind to our planet while we do so?

It's interesting that when we start to look at the world around us we are able to solve problems and create new and better products in a more earth friendly way. This blog post alone shows three major outlets: sustainable energy and its production, biomimicry, and clothing, making what we have even better!
